Innovation Sprint in Class with ScrapeTec Trading

Conveyor belts for cement, salt, sand and other bulk materials all face the same problem: as soon as the belt no longer runs centrally, small dust particles of the bulk material fall from the conveyor system, causing loss of the goods and dirt in the air.

To counteract this problem, the company ScrapeTec Trading GmbH from Kamp-Lintfort has developed various products that seal the conveyor belt transfers without wear. The company faces two further challenges: "How can misalignment of the conveyor belt be avoided?" and "How can possible misalignment be measured?"

As part of StartGlocal's new curricular event the "Innovation Sprint in Class", 10 students from the Mechanical Engineering program took on these challenges. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kisters, StartGlocal and creativity coach Daniel Urban, the students found innovative solutions and presented them in a pitch at the end of the day. First place was awarded with a prize. The kick-off of the event series was a complete success. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kisters is pleased with the successful day:

"We will definitely repeat the Innovation Sprint in Class and think about making the format permanent. We are also thinking about a version for scientific employees and professors."
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kisters
