With a carefully designed program, Start-up Week offered an inspiring mix of expert talks, interactive workshops, and practical activities, empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life.
Highlights of Start-up Week 2024
Tax Advice for Students
The week began with a hands-on session focusing on the financial aspects of starting a business. Tax advisor Marie-Christin Remy provided valuable insights on selecting the right legal structure, taking the first steps in forming a company, and understanding tax obligations. The session concluded with a lively Q&A session, addressing questions like switching from a GbR to a GmbH or managing social security while working part-time and owning a UG.
Workshop: AI for Entrepreneurs
The second day focused on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence. Led by Elvis Melia, participants explored tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Mistral. Through practical exercises, they compared outputs, identified the strengths of each AI model, and developed effective prompt techniques. The session powerfully demonstrated how AI can foster creativity, optimize processes, and accelerate start-up growth.
Building Sustainable Business Models
On the third day, participants joined an online workshop led by Dr.-Ing. Erik Steinhöfel, focusing on integrating sustainability into entrepreneurial strategies. They gained insights into developing impact-driven business models aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The session emphasized the importance of combining innovation with social and environmental responsibility.
Idea Pitch and Poster Session
The week culminated in a dynamic Idea Pitch and Poster Session. Students from the International Business Administration program at the Faculty of Communication and Environment presented their business ideas on posters, which were evaluated by an expert jury. Following the session, participants seized the opportunity to exchange ideas and network with peers and professionals.
Promoting an Entrepreneurial Culture
Start-up Week 2024 once again showcased Rhine-Waal University’s commitment to fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial culture on campus and in the region. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and practical application in preparing students for entrepreneurial success.
“With this year’s Start-up Week, we once again demonstrated the innovative potential of our university. Events like these are essential to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit that drives both personal growth and regional innovation,” said Dr. Gerhard Heusipp, Head of ZFIT at Rhine-Waal University.
As the week drew to a close, participants left with new skills, valuable connections, and the motivation to turn their business ideas into reality.
